Mucus - a taboo word? Mucus in the respiratory system (such as phlegm ) - is an acceptable term. Yet when it exists in another part of the body - it's taboo..Alright, I'm in an Asian society whereby people find the terms of certain organs are more offensive then others. T_T".
According to the wikipedia, mucus is a viscous colloid containing antiseptic enzymes (such as lysozyme) and immunoglobulins that serves to protect epithelial cells in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, visual, and auditory systems in mammals; the epidermis in amphibians; and the gills in fish.... Mucus also contains mucins, produced by goblet cells in the mucous membranes and submucosal glands, and inorganic salts suspended in water. The average human body produces about a liter of mucus per day. (The wiki article went on to elaborate about the mucus in different part of the body.)
oh well.. mucus is still mucus. Why the discrimination?
