Focused? Or does that translate to losing focus?

Can you chew gum and walk at the same time? By doing only the former action and not the latter action, or vice versa (i.e. if you chew, you don't walk Or if you walk, you can't chew) are you being focus? & single-minded?

My opinion is that the main thing here in this instance is walking.. If you are walking and the gum chewing is affecting your ability to walk, you ought not to be chewing. But if your focus is the gum chewing, don't walk, else you will choke/trip whatever.

Obviously my real intent is not on gum chewing & walking. ( Most people can perform these two tasks stimultaneously..) But I'm trying to draw an analogy here, trying to be politically correct.

A more vivid illustration... A guide of an expedition group leading a team to scale say, Mt Kinabalu. Due to circumstances, perhaps the urge to chew gum is more pressing than walking to the destination. So he decides to concentrate on chewing and lost focus of where he is heading (satisfying his own need). And he assumed that the members would be able to read the compass and redirect/ take care of themselves should he just take off for a while. Wrong. If they could do it on their own, why would they need to follow him in the first place? So focusing on the chewing of gum has resulted him in losing focus of the original focus of the expedition? Oh yeah. Certainly it did. However, if you are simply one of the team following behind the guide, go on chew your gum and just follow.

Rambling.. though I honor the guide for taking responsibility to leading the expedition. Just glad that I am not part of that expedition.
