Pandemic

Was handed this by my bcp (business continuity plan) rep this afternoon. No prize for guessing what it was.

thermometer!

Reminded me of the SARS period. (At that time, I was working in novena area, near the CDC & TTSH, so hence, people were more paranoid then..) Anyway, we gotta keep a body temperature log daily. Morning & after lunch. And to stay out of office & to the doc should temperature rise above 37.5 degree.

Sigh.. hopefully the swine flu will not hit shores of sg.

Nah, I will not shun the cooked swine aka pork because of this. But then again, that's not my fave food.. so.. lalala. I miss my 大白兔奶糖(人人爱吃的奶糖!)(which went missing since the tainted milk incident..) But then, I only can eat at most one. cuz it uber sweet.

Time to sleep!

Chill out by the riverside - mid week wednesday treat!

Finally made it to Timbre with my running kakis@work! We wanted to drop by the outlet @ substation last Friday but apparently the booking was full on Monday.. :( Cuz hearsay revealed that The UnXpected was good, hence we made a booking at Timbre@The Arts House the following Wednesday - i.e. last evening.- cuz Shirlyn & The UnXpected were scheduled to play on wed. :)
And it was an enjoyable evening.. The pizza (we ordered the tandori chicken & timbre supreme- both equally good!) was paperthin  & yummy when pipping hot and so was the seafood platter. :) And I kinda like my drink too.. Was recommended to try the Sakura when I ordered china blue (taste lovely - cuz it's combination of lychee martini & china blue..).
It's really great place to chill out (outdoors) with the white statue of Sir Stamford Raffles looking over your shoulders .. and great view of the riverside & the skyscrapers.. (okie.. staring in the direction of the skyscrapers invoke thoughts that kept me preoccupied.. cuz.. oh well...)
Stayed till the band played the last song, around 1130. Like the band, and the mix of music played. :) Won't mind heading back there again. :)
Cabbed back with KH, the sole eastener in the group. Was surprised to that KH actually offered to detour and send me home before heading back to his place. Then again, being the gentleman he is, not that surprising afterall. Alright, got to chat a bit more with him on the route back home cuz ya, there were only the two of us in the cab. And turned out we are from the acc batch.. small world.. but never seen him before in school. Then again, the faculty is large wo..  (is the <3bank @ work tonight? Not too sure... lol)
Here's a snap taken with my w660i (tstill surviving till her replacement is found..) We were sitting @ the corner facing the riverside. :) and yep, it is a warm & humid nite..

The abyss - not for the faint hearted...

STOP if you are eating while reading this post..  it's not gonna boost your appetite!

I reckon I have high threshold for pain (not to say I enjoy being inflicted with that). Some may know the twit - yep, me - has a brush with the protruding (plastic) toilet door latch in my room a couple of weeks ago. And that has resulted in this 3 to 4 centimeters long scratch (but there was minimal blood when the incident occurred). Due to the minimal loss of blood, I just clean the small cut, poured concentrated dettol over it. C'est tout. With time, the scratch soon swell up and it became kinda painful to touch, and looked angrier (ie red!) day by day.

Was rather irritated with that prolonged swell.. I decided to speed up the process. ( Incidentally, the haste buster in me have the tendency to tease the blister/scabs via poking to drain the fluid/peeling to try remove the harden scab.) Okie, I decided to employ the help of a nail clipper, my nimble fingers and my ceiling light. And concentrated dettol ( Had I not learnt that 青草油 contains toxic ingredients and ought not be applied to OPEN wounds, I would have douse that open wound after cleaning the pus and blood and sterilising with dettol with a splash of that. And yes, it hurts.. but usually the wound recover shortly after..).

Sterlised the equipment, removed the scab (partially hardend for certain portions) with fingers then nail clipper to tease and peel.. and unveiled flesh (not much blood) and some yellow pus.. Shoo.. infected lo.. :( Dettoled it.. covered with guaze and surgical tape.. And prayed it would be slightly better in the morning.

Realised it still looked infected this morning and decided to drop by clinic @ office for a checkup. (After I showed my colleague, WY, the gruesome sight in office - she shooed me to the clinic). Yeah, it was infected alright. Just slight infection, but doc lamented that I oughta seek help ealier.. She was deliberating whether to give me a tentanus shot and decided againstt it cuz the incident happended @ home (hence shld be rather clean) . Phew. :) So the wound was washed.. and bandaged. And here's the evidence...

Huge square on my left elbow. And I went dinner with a few of my colleagues with that huge patch lo. :(
The details...
The sight that greeted me when i removed the bandage before showering...

the pus free "abyss"

The culprit!!
Oh it's a rather unappetizing post rite? At least, it was not as gross as the night before!

Chameleon

Passed by this budget accessories shop, Chameleon (whereby I titled this post after) @ Tampines 1 last evening with Jess. which soothes the crap earlier.. Crap?

I was pretty appalled by the double-standard attitude portrayed by some earlier on. Being peers (or perhaps being deemed lower in the hierarchy by the subject) meant that you could disregard their existence?

At the very least, even a toddler will wave to his friends & teacher alike, at the end of class when his parents fetch him from school, and not just simply walk off. (or so another term coined up by people to describe this behaviour - AP. Not Arithmetic Progression). Hence, by reasonable assumption, grown-ups should (at least) portray the same level of courtesy be it to your superiors or your peers or subordinates, rite? Let say, a wedding dinner? At least, I remembered even strangers whom I just met at friends' wedding dinner would at least mumble a "I'll make a move first" at the last course and not just simply dissipate?

Nope, this is an err assumption. Or so I witness earlier on. And yep, synonymous attitude portrayed by both towards I reckon those "lower in the hierarchy" cuz yep, the attitude towards the higher up (and the associated) were given a contrasting opposite.

Respect? That needs to be earned. Need a favour in times of need? Treat those around you equally, regardless of status. Please, they are not pawns to be used. Best role model, Jesus, who treats all equally, regardless of status. :) Oh i remember, I live in a broken down world. Yep, smile, the world will seem happier. After all, this ain't the first time. Not being vocal doesn't denote unawareness.

Those who has ears, let him ear.

Aching hands... Aching heart.. reaping the rewards...

I guessed cuz I'm too sour with my words today and failing to jot down faithfully what went into my system for the past two weeks.. my dear trainer decided to "reward" me this afternoon... :O

And he disclosed that he's training this one of this star blogger blogging on stomp.. and showed me the page..  Since I promised not to tag (cuz he is shy wo (???).. and he told me not that he wanna show off la.. just share lo.. cuz me is one of his "closer" client... and the photographer took shots of him unaware...) (dun think he knows this client of him - me-  blog too.. ), so i couldn't.... but her one page description of her session is so true.. but no la, he ain't evil slave driver.. or perhaps, my threshold for endurance is higher..  (eh one of my colleague named me "slave driver" after I suggested running round keppel island after we ran ard mt faber.. )

And the silly cough has yet wane off.. Sigh, oni managed a 5km today.. :(  but have faith that I should survive the 15km in a month's time .. (Had a horrendous nitemare this morning that massive rain during the run - but dunno why jy and ast were in it.. haha... is it a sigh that jy will decide to start running? hehehe...)

And maybe hands not that aching afterall, since I've yet felt the strain while lifting my hands during service.. :) Speaking of service.. It's wow! And I totally believe in what the prophet says.. And I hold firm to this "those who sow in tears shall reap with joy" cuz. ya, that's what I'd done. :)  (or so another saying goes "no pain, no gain" . Same for the physical muscles too.. :)

Digital TV is down..

For the past 18minutes 35 seconds (and counting), I've hearing this repeated (irritating) jingle from Singtel mioTV.. telling me I know we can all we friends and....  we can be friends" blah blah blah... (Seriously, I am getting rather irritated by the repeated jingle..) And it took me 5 to 6 tries to get thru the mio helpline...

When I decided to blog this... I am connected.. Yay! I waited 19 + minutes for a 1 minute + conversation... Being able to watch "toGETher" using the old fashion cable - Still rather appleased. (I can anticipate many of those in my neighbourhood using mioTV calling the hotline since I figured, we should be connected to the same server... ) So I am pretty civil to him and yep, sweetly explained my connectivity problem to him.. From his response, I reckon he has been repeating the same reply to many before me.. (He assured me that the technical problem isn't an isolated problem.. my neighbours using the mioTV will have the same issue too.. cuz haha.. the back end server my area is connected with is DOWN.. ) oh well.. Thank GOd I still have the old cable.. haha.. else.. I can't watch TV (though I've already caught the episode showing tonite on youtube two weeks ago..). So I guessed he must be pretty surprised that I didn't lash out at him for waiting for so long...

Let me tune in to the "Les Choristes" on okto later. :)

Alternative to vegatation

It was a great Friday.

Was expecting to just spend Friday nite "vegetating" @ home, cuz working the next day, won't want to stay out too late.

Originally, was supposed to head home after work cuz my dear digestive system ain't working that fantastic but it was better when I received Yajing's call, so went to catch a movie with her colleague & her. Found the movie "17 -again" hilarious. Thought it would be just another teen flick kinda show. :) but Zac Efron was uber cute! :)

Headed to a friend's shoe shop after the movie.. Bought this lovely pair of chunky pink heels (which I'd like but didn't purchase due to the price tag.) save 30%. Glad. (Alright, if I didn't buy, I would have save $70 but would have deprived myself from the chance to wear that.. )

Was glad to catch up with Yajing. Envious, she got herself a scholarship from her hospital to pursue her nursing degree in Aussie.. Sigh. I wanna head out of here too.. (for vacation/ for studies... )

Glad that the "aunty mentality" strikes to make me wanna take the train to raffles place instead if sillyhall to transit train to the east. (Aunty mentality cuz RP is a stop ahead of sillyhall, hence should be able to secure me at least a standing place!) Saw e busily fiddling with the phone @ RP.. Didn't disturb him cuz train was coming. The train was ridiculously packed with humans and felt like sardines in the tin. Didn't get to talk to e till haha.. he spotted me (i reckon from windows reflection?) and parked himself next to me. yay.. at least it was not a boring trip back home cuz someone to chitchat with.. :)

I guessed going against my flesh's desire to rest yesterday has yielded better satisfaction to my soul - cuz of (a) new shoes ,(b) meeting my daily word quota, (c) caught a moive, and (d) catching up with friends.

Big Wind Blow

Literally, the wind was howling outside last night. (Glad I did not went out..)

The sheer force of the wind on the falling raindrops create the familiar sounds of the cleaner washing the common corridor. But cleaning the corridor close to midnight? Crazy. I realised it was pouring and the wind was having a wild night out!

It sure reminded me of the time I was stuck in the hotel last year due to the typhoon (think was the red signal.. ). Scary! And drats, my mom had aired the laundry and (all five poles of them) and it was a terrifying experience to bring them in..  I see plastic bag flying in the kitchen when i stepped in! Gosh, I was praying each time I stretched out to reach for the swaying poles outside... Thank goodness the intensity reduced  whenever 1/3 of me was out of my window, trying to bring in the heavy pole (cuz the laundry was not dry yet, hence heavy!!)

Freaky weather... signs of global warming... :(

Meeeeeeeooooooooow!

memory... all alone in the moonlight.... ahha.. the tune that most can recall of Cats

The brightly lit moon on a gloomy nite.. the not too sharp shot taken by my phone of the stage.. :)

Think the last musical I caught was Chang & Eng (not to mentioned it was on the nite of  September 11, 2001 - remembered receiving the shocking text msg from my bro that the WTC had crashed after the musical) @ the defuncted Kallang Theatre.) Oh yes, think I did watch a Chinese one last year too @ the esplandae, can't recall the title, think was part of 华艺, all I remembered William Su was the male lead..

Hmmm despite not being seated on the floor ( I was in the VIP box seat which was uhm, the most exp category..), we still get the cats attention!! Got a shock of my life when Jess grabbed my arm suddenly at the beginning act ~ cuz one pretty feline came with its futuristic glowing eyes came close next to her... And in another act, we were wondering why the echo of the cats "chant" became surround-sound that we realised she has crept in and lying on the porch of the VIP box.  :)

And I was totally swooned by the very charming Rum Tum Tugger.. He was prancing around the stage like Elvis/ (and kinda reminded me of mick jagger too.. ) in feline coat! *wolf whistle!* Bought the programme (felt kinda ripped off at the hefty price of $20 - cuz nothing much within.)

My fave song is nah, not memories.. but "Mr. Mistoffelees" - happie feel to it.. :)

Meow!! But, that's not gonna make me get a kitty to keep on the impulse. (Cuz I've too much stuff lying around! ) but I do like cats.. [not exactly a fanatic of its famous Japanese sanrio character but I dun mind it.. :)] they look so pretty... like princess..- with an attitude! :) like the ginger cat.. and also ivory's seth! hehe.. :) meanwhile, I am contented with the non-living feline.. as posted below:

the eeeks... and the ahh...

Studying biology helps. At least the terminologies of the different parts of the respiratory system do not sound like Greek and I am able to appreciate the mechanism of the organs. :)   Also, I am not capable of emitting squirmy sounds when being shown images of the various human organs.  My take on this is – these are organs found in your body, just that these are not visible to your eyes (which is too, one of the many organs of your body) since they are well embedded within the body, so why the “eeeeeks” when you are viewing a clip of how they work , for example the vocal folds ?

I was in a room whereby the median age should be 20+ or I reckon the youngest in the room should be at least in secondary school (i.e. not kids!) And these are not the reproductive organs – whereby I reckon some will find the pictorial views of these being offensive (but still, these are just human organs,  (so why the discrimination?) like skin and limbs.. why doesn’t one scream when one sees someone waving his hand at you?)  I can understand people being squirmy when viewing bloody scenes (myself included) but eh, viewing a clip of how the vocal folds work (video taken probably by a scope cam) whereby no blood is involved, does it warrant such an overwhelming response of “eeeeeks”?   Or maybe they found the vocal folds bear resemblance to some other organs?? oh dear, what's the problem?

Or maybe, it is just a case of “suakuism”. Gosh, I am sounding like an elitist..

Hmm, it is indeed an enriching lesson last nite of the oldest instrument of the human body - our voice..

Midweek Wednesday Rambles..

Chatted briefly over the msn with a few pals early this morning (denote: midnite..). Hence kinda overslept this am.. ivory & estelle, get well soon babes.... kinda flirted with e with a disclaimer (haha!)... [cuz he said "be good, dun miss me ah" .. to which i replied... "okie.. I'll be notty and i will miss u deep deep (hahahaha!)". dun think he will think otherwise.. else.. hahaha...]  *jealous* i wanna jet out too..@ the current moment, think he should be enjoying his scrumptious lunch @ the Peninsula in hk...

Just bought a pair of running shoes... so sweet rite? haha.. :) cuz my current pair is kinda.. "sad" looking now..

yay! going running later this evening (to try it out)!! :) * i hope i will get home in time!* Dun want to run too late woah.. shall attempt to run ard my estate . haha.. if not, maybe ard workplace ba.

Back to work... lalalala.

ah...

i feel so happy.. worth the while to be awake till now.. :)

*crap*

Tuesday 14 April 2009

i wonder...

if it is more than a coincidence... this topic came up suddenly while chatting with someone on the msn (okie.. i am working.. just multi-tasking..) and ya, never told anyone abt it.. so I was pretty surprised that my friend ("A") was spot on.. (hey friend if u know who u are good.. ahha cuz no one knows le.. and u spot on on the identity.. i am still pretty amazed.. ).. shhh okie.. haha... aha.. and yup, on my way home with my colleague ("W") (one of those whom i am closer to, my running kaki..) the same topic came up..

Is this a coincidence or a sign? Oh well.. i ought not think too much into it. though thru my conversation with A and W, (eh.. i realised the initials of my two friends formed the oh-so-familar fastfood resturant - A&W! *digress*), i came to realise there are things I knew which is more than what usual acquaintance will know.. and oh well.. shall not stretch my already imaginative mind..

Glad that I took the nel line home today.. cuz bumped into sheena @ compass point(the last I saw her was christmas?!) .. :) had a lovely time dinning with her.. :) and happy for her to see her basking in pure joy! :)
oh well.. i wanna be in hk too.. haha..

running...

Yeap, I've been doing that kinda more frequently recently... not the hiding type..

A friend of mine told me that he runs when he has to think, and he will plug into his iShuffle/iPod and run.. (he's kinda extreme - he can run from pasir ris to east coast and back in the wee hours of nite! ). Nah, I'm not that extreme yet. (Perhaps not run - i don't have that stamina yet, but walking is fine with me.. not in the middle of the nite.. )

Went for a run @ the pasir ris park (from home to loyang end, then loyang end to the other end, then from the other end to where i started.. i.e. the downtown east area..) on sunday evening and monday morning.. Sunday cuz ate the humungously sinful lunch of popeye's chicken with fries and yummy mash. Weather was good when i reached home, so changed and was plugged into my iPod. Ran to and forth pasir ris park. My trustworthy nike+ sportsband computed that I'd ran about 8km.. after cooling down still have a burst of energy - and it was still early ard 630, hence ran to loyang (not that heroic to attempt to Changi beach..) and back home.. think was another 2km.. haha.. so i did a 10km in total - all for that two pieces of fried (oh so tasty) chicken.

As I'd gamely (or not really) signed up for the 15km segment of the passion run in may (thanks to me responding to a good friend's jio-ing of participating in that), thought that I might as well start to attempt to stimulate a 15km run.. haha.. thought of doing it on monday morning (since I'm on leave ) But alas, i woke up late (ard 8)..the sun was already up.. so if i do two rounds of pasir ris park.. i will be fried. SO i applied my sunblock (which was spf 25 which a kind little birdie informed me that it's way too low for any protection earlier today..) - but ended up with the lovely marking of the top i was wearing (fortunately, it was a tank top..) and the white strip across my wrist where I was wearing my watch (phew, i didn't wear that iPod on my arm.. hence.. worst..) And it was only for like at most 50 min? But I walked back to the Elias part of the beach cuz I wanna sit on the swing.. haha.. despite the heat.. it was 10am by then and it was darn hot.. bUt i enjoyed the 5 minutes of alone-ness. and the serenity of the beach (it was rather empty saved for the few crazy peeps like me - i think they are training .. cuz one of them even had few packs of energy gel plastered to his waist, and some ran at least one round!! )

but I enjoyed the peace and serenity.. and the blueness of the sky and the greeness of the leaves.. and the sweet presence of God.. :) and thankful that I've a pair of healthy legs (except for the on & off ankle prob) that can bring me to places.. :) haha.. and nope.. my 2.4km ain't fantastic.. and reason i started running.. was haha.. to lose weight.. and haha.. it can be done alone or with friends.. and out of which, my colleague and i started this running group in which a few of us (cross-department) will run around our office area after work.. (haha like what I told asteric.. like a connect group like dat.. just that no preaching.. haha.. just common interest - but hey.. good way to build bond.. who knows what may happen rite?)
And haha.. it's never to late to start doing something new.. :) and paintball sounds fun.. haha..

The question that I can only answer by answering (silently)

Ever been in a situation whereby you are asked a question but you have the answer but just no guts to answer? Simply by telling the facts, things are definitely gonna change.. and i don't want that..

I chose to not voice it cuz its not what He wants and the consequences may not be what I want to live with..

So I hold my peace, which ain't that easy...

Saturday 11 April 2009

He died and rose again...

I was moved by the Easter drama (as usual). And I am indeed impressed by the creativity of our scriptwriters who could from one non-important character in the scripture spun out one excellent story that has radically change the lives of many others who was reconciled with their Maker on the day (or the weekend) that He has sent His only son to redeem us for the wrongs that we have done.

Sat in for Service One (cuz was serving S2 as well). The best moment of the service was at the end of the service when you see people responding to the altar call, being brought back to the House of God. And that literally moved me to tears.. :) It's even reported in the Straits Times!

And a pat on the back for going beyond my flesh for being friendly and helping an over enthusatic sister (whose piercing screams sound @ the wrong time - cuz its a solo scream! - rather similar to the re-nacting by the choir ICs on the "what-not-to-do" during the newcomer's nite) to correct her incorrect (but loud) part. Usually I'll try to avoid her cuz ya, preference of the flesh to mingle with the like-minded.. and not the uniques.. But sigh.. still she sounded weird lo.. And her voice that sticks out really disturb me a bit.. especially during worship.. Sigh, I guess sometimes u need to be sensitive to how you sound too...

Caught up with Jess @ T3 over dinner.. :)yay! excited.. Gonna watch CATS next Sunday! Yay!!

Saw that the booksale is on this weekend @ expo.. Gonna make a trip down later after my gym.. :)

back to work.. :)

Tuesday 7 April 2009

Do you really want it?

Not taken from the first line of ricky martin's cup of life.. *haha*

Recalled the msn conversation I'd with asteric. It all started with him asking what's the missing piece? FOr a moment, he thought I found dah-man.. *oh yeah, I can start singing debbie gibson's only in my dream....* *which might depicts the situation ...*

Caught the 8th episode of "toGETher" on youtube ... was in the dreamland mode.. *nah, I'm not a fan of any of the 偶像 in this 偶像剧, just thought that the story was kinda sweet.. * oh well.. guess most of the XX species are fans of romance in one way of another... (but I've never read any of the mills & boons paperbacks though... haha cuz the cover ain't that attractive enough.. ) the dilemma that momo faced got me thinking... wonder if I've the heart to do what she did.. *digress*

continued from para two..

the missing piece was definitely not about tHe-man.. but something that I simply did not dare to think of for a long time... Definitely did not went thru' the full package as what he did.. but .. it was somewhat similar.. just that mine was of a lower level.. was encouraged but what he said .. haha..  though i guessed while typing,  there was some element of self-counseling...

Do i really want it? I guess the answer is evident...

The missing piece .. found

Frustrated when you realised that you were towards the end of completing that 1000 pieces jigsaw puzzle and only realised that one piece is missing? Or when you came to last chapter of the exciting thriller, you realised the pages containing the ending is missing...

I was.. frustrated sorta...  God has been speaking to me.. (however, there is the absence of tenacity on my part) and He has been revealing pieces here and there...reminding me things/events that I had forgotten BUT there is this piece to the puzzle that was missing.. until tonight..

was supposed to meet one of my ex-colleagues last evening after my appointment @ the salon.. (butt numbed after 3 hours in the chair. - i coloured, re-boned/straightened, cut... - no time for treatment - maybe next wk ba... ), but meet up was rescheduled to next week due to her work commitments. Which was good cuz miss-i got me to accompany her for the supposedly venue viewing but that did not worked out either... thought that I would just accompany her till 8pm and head home to *nuah*. But somehow, i happened to be next to ivory while steven called her shortly after I met up with ivory... hence.. I attended the meeting *supposedly* meant for the couples...

And ... nope, did not regret it.. somehow the recent events/thoughts just fell into place... and this evening was when I experienced the very kabod strongest.. and it's like huge embrace from heaven.... [And I'm glad the *should I be there*-self doubting thought lingered for only a few seconds and dismissed it - cuz if I ought not to be there, I won't be... ]

"You did not choose me but I have chose you..." John 15:16

I guessed its time to face that and stop using the "But I am ....." (Jer 1:6-8)

Fulfillment of calling comes at the intersection of your talent and the seizing of that opportunity.
I don't want to detour again ...
